Reiki
Reiki
is a natural healing art of Japanese origin. The name
Reiki is formed from two words, Rei meaning Universal, and Ki
meaning Energy or Life Force. Thus, Reiki is universal
life force energy that flows through the practitioner to the
client, by means of gentle touch. It can be described
simply as a hands-on relaxation treatment, but it works very
powerfully and subtly to clear energetic blocks on physical,
mental, emotional and spiritual levels.
In a Reiki session, the client remains fully clothed, laying on
a treatment table while the practitioner places her hands in
certain positions on the head and down the body. Clients
may notice sensations of heat or tingling associated with the
practitioner’s hands, and often experience deep relaxation with
feelings of peace and calm.
Benefits of Reiki
- 1 hour of Reiki provides the same physiological benefits as
3-4 hours of sleep
- balances the body's organs, glands, and systems (affecting all
body functions)
- relieves pain, stiffness and discomfort
- helps the body to release and cleanse itself of toxins
- strengthens the immune system
- increases vitality
- helps provide relief from stresses of all kinds and reduces
anxiety levels
- promotes an overall sense of well-being and centeredness
CranioSacral
Therapy (CST) and SomatoEmotional Release (SER)
CranioSacral
Therapy uses light-touch techniques to address restrictions in
the tissues surrounding your brain and spinal cord. These
methods have a profound effect on the health of your central
nervous system, and by extension will improve the function of
all other bodily systems.
The focus of
craniosacral techniques is the tissue surrounding the
cerebrospinal fluid. Because it behaves like a
semi-enclosed hydraulic system, very little force is needed to
influence change. The exact amount of force used is less
than 5 grams, which is the weight of a nickel. It is for
this reason that CranioSacral Therapy is known as a light-touch
therapy, and unlike massage therapy, the client is often not
aware that their tissues are being manipulated.
In a CranioSacral
session, the client remains fully clothed, laying on their back
on a treatment table. The practitioner places hands along
the body but primarily on the skull and tailbone. Clients
generally report feelings of deep relaxation very early into the
treatment, and it is common to fall asleep on the table.
As restrictions are released, clients may notice twitches and
movements in their muscles, and changes in breathing. As
well, memories or feelings may surface.
SomatoEmotional
Release is a component of CST.
Often when trauma occurs, our bodies and our subconscious work
to block harmful aspects of it, allowing us to continue to
function until we are better able to process what has occurred.
The problem is that the body then has to compensate for this
block, and its ability to do so gets compromised over time.
The craniosacral practitioner can listen to feedback from the
tissues to locate such blocks. When they are released on a
physical level within the tissues, an emotional release is often
experienced by the client as well. The process is
very gentle and natural, and the client generally releases the
full emotion before they gain insight as to what incident the
emotion is associated with. In other words, once the
intense emotion is released, they find they are able to finally
‘process’ the initial trauma.
Benefits:
CST has been shown to alleviate a wide range of conditions
including
- injuries involving
trauma to the brain and spinal cord
- migraine headaches
- chronic fatigue
- motor-coordination issues
- neck and back pain
-
scoliosis
- orthopedic problems
- temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction
- stress and tension-related problems
While the focus of CST is to
address restrictions within the CranioSacral system, general
symptom relief is also achieved. Clients who continue with
regular sessions often report having more energy, sleeping
better and being sick less often.
Emotional
Freedom Techniques (EFT)
Emotional
Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a means of dissolving upsetting or
intense emotions using the same principles that are behind the
ancient art of acupuncture. Rather than using needles, it
is possible to stimulate the acupuncture meridians by gently
tapping with fingertips on certain points located on the face,
chest and hands. When the meridians are stimulated in this
way, while the client is ‘tuned in’ to a particular emotion, it
has the effect of dissipating the emotional response as well as
the physical tensions associated with it.
In a session with EFT, the client
sits comfortably across from the practitioner, following her
lead as she repeats certain phrases and taps on her own
acupuncture points. The practitioner works closely with
the client, using guiding questions to help identify appropriate
phrases for tapping. The client is also given a worksheet
as a resource to continue tapping at home.
EFT
is simple to learn, easy to use and extremely effective.
It is a wonderfully profound, and portable, stress-relief
technique that can be self-administered.
Benefits:
EFT can be used to effectively alleviate any or all of the
following
- Anger
and frustration
- Grief
and bereavement
- Performance
issues, whether academic, sports-related, or at work
- Fears
and phobias
- Eating
disorders
- Childrens
